Stylish desk lamp,
This is an attractive, good quality, versatile lamp. The brushed steel and white shade go well with the Mac paraphernalia on my desk, though the design is stylish enough to suit most rooms. It differs from other Anglepoise lamps I’ve seen in that the shade is translucent plastic that glows when the lamp is on. This means that in addition to a spot of light you get a lot of ambient illumination. That’s fine for my workspace, but it may not be suitable if you just want a single pool of light on your desk.
Assembly was simple enough: 2 springs and a base that slot into place. I had a droop problem at first. The instructions tell you to use the provided allen keys to tighten the joints, but don’t go into any detail about the best method. After a fair bit of random tightening, I’ve got it to hold its position most of the time. However, if I flex the joints a lot it seems to loosen some of the nuts again, requiring more tightening. Hence 4 stars instead of 5.
I wasn’t expecting to like the energy saving bulb that comes with it, but it’s fine – a pleasant, soft, stable white light. It takes a few seconds to come up to full brightness. Other than that, you’d never know it wasn’t a “proper” light bulb.

|poor at best!,
First of all I have to say that I purchased this during the last amazon “black thursday” sale, and got it for a smidge over £60, and I still felt ripped off.
Lets look at the facts:
1. poor engineering. It just doesnt stay where you want it to, and some of the fittings (the shade and switch in particular) were very dissapointing.
2. poor finish – the paint wasn’t even on some parts of the body
3. Light bulb. Its pretty shocking to say that the best thing about this light was the energy saving bulb, but there you go.
Don’t get me wrong, if I had paid £30, I wouldn’t be complaining, but I felt ripped off for £60 (let alone the normal asking price!). I get the impression that anglepoise has managed to maintain an image of being “cool” therefore I suspect that alot of people who own one of these has it sat over there apple macs. I on the other hand have a pc, and this light was junk.
